Counseling is something many people are lucky enough to experience in their lifetimes. At NCIM we are lucky to have Heidi Kaseweter, a Canadian Certified Counselor, available to see patients. Heidi sees counseling as a collaborative effort; it involves the development of a unique, confidential helping relationship. Counselors act as facilitators in helping clients understand feelings, behaviors, relationships with others, situations, choices and decisions.(Counselors offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. Heidi’s theoretical framework includes techniques based on cognitive and behavioral, narrative, solution-focused and feminist approaches. Counseling services can provide information and help instill new skills in a variety of situations, such as stress management, time management, life skills coaching, goal setting, relaxation techniques, weight management, smoking cessation, drug and alcohol treatment, relationship or social networking, and motivation building. Counseling topics can include depression or anxiety, panic attacks, eating disorders, emotional eating, self-esteem, body image issues, sleep disorders, critical incidents or trauma, addictions, and grief and loss.

A small number of patients with congestive heart failure, angina, chronic urticaria, hyperthyroidism, painful menstruation, migraine headaches and other conditions have also been treated with this approach and most showed marked improvement.
